Looking Back…
Some will tell you never to look back, to keep moving forward, and forget the past. I’m not one of those people.
I believe we sometimes need to stop and take a look over our shoulder to see where we’ve been. Not to lament opportunities missed. Not to mourn our losses. But instead to acknowledge how far we’ve come.
And to affirm the lessons we’ve learned along the way.
As I reach some significant milestones in life, I look back and recognize some of the joys and struggles in my journey.
I am proud of raising a beautiful family, completing a great career, and having the courage to build a second entirely from scratch.
I’ve had a lifetime commitment to learning. It has helped me create a website, start a podcast, and successfully coach others to find peace in their lives. I would not have considered it possible to accomplish any of these only a decade ago.
Today I rejoice over surviving cancer this past year. And I celebrate writing a book in the midst of it.
And yet here I am, nearing the end of both.
As I look at my life, I realize that none of the errors in judgment I made were fatal.
Some turned out the be the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’m glad that I didn’t let my fears hold me back. And I’m grateful that I kept moving forward when I wasn’t sure where the next step would lead me or if I would fall.
I’m also glad that I stopped to look back over my shoulder today to see how far I’ve come.
If you are reading this, I want to thank you for being a part of my journey. Whether you’re an old friend or a new acquaintance, know that our stories are more similar than not. We all have challenges and victories sprinkled in everyday life.
We all have a story to tell and a message to share.
I’m excited to be celebrating my 60th birthday this week.
I am recording a special podcast episode to honor where I’ve been these past six decades. I am excited to have fellow faith-based coach, Kim Avery, as my guest host on my show, Longing for More. Together we will discuss some of the joys and struggles of being an entrepreneur in today’s culture. And so much more!
It’s such an honor to have Kim on the show to celebrate this landmark birthday! I can’t wait to share the conversation with you.
Tune in on June 4th to learn more about the steps, yes, even the missteps I’ve taken in life and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.
See you there!
