82: Change Your Child’s Food; Change Their Life

Nutrition has a profound impact on our overall health. In today’s show, we learn how one little girl went from a diagnosis of attention-deficit to being on the honor roll as a result of changing her diet.

Join us as today’s guest, Alyson Chugerman, changed her child’s life by changing her diet and how she wants to help others do the same.

Listen as she tells of the choices they as a family made and the significant impact it had on her daughter’s success in life.

I believe every child deserves this same opportunity. Please listen and then share with others you know who can benefit from this perspective.

Notes from the session: Living Your More comes in many shapes and sizes. Each individual’s More is as unique as their DNA. God gives us cues along the way, but we need to be listening when He nudges us toward the next step on our path, and then we need to have the courage to take a step in the direction He is pointing. In today’s episode of Longing for More, I interview Alyson Chugerman, Integrative Nutrition Coach and owner of Attain True Health.

She tells the story of when her six-year-old daughter was diagnosed with an attention deficit disorder and was prescribed drugs by her physician to manage it. She shares the effects those drugs had on her daughter all those years ago and how the doctors were all too happy to put her young daughter on a variety of drugs to counteract the side effects of the narcotic they placed her on because of her behavior problems.

She goes on to tell how she and her husband made the choice to walk away from that course of action and turned to food to resolve the problem and how in just 30 days the girl’s teacher was calling about how impressed she was with her daughter’s behavior. I can’t imagine the courage it took to take that action when the authorities were advising a different course. Thankfully Alyson and her husband followed their intuition and their daughter’s life was forever changed as a result of that decision.

It’s a beautiful story of how a mother took charge of her child’s health and changed the course of her life from that of a child medicated to modify her behavior to one who became very successful in life. In fact, she graduated both high school and college with honors by following her mother’s food choices for her initially and then later for herself.

Alyson shares that there are about 8 million kids with an ADD or ADHD diagnosis in America today and how we, as a society, are challenged to help change our young people’s lives by helping them and their parents understand the devastating impact of the poor food choices we make when we don’t seek healthy foods.

She also shares how she instituted the “courtesy taste” for her children so the would always try at least one bite of each food.  My favorite idea she shared was, “if you never tried an M&M you would never know you liked them.” How true! Truly you could say that about every food or drink you enjoy!

Alyson talks about how food is medicine and how we are challenged to take responsibility for our own health to be able to attain true health.

It is a lovely conversation where Alyson shares her favorite quote from Norman Vincent Peale, which is, “Change your thoughts and you change your whole world.”

She also shares that every challenge is a gift that we can pass along to someone else.

The interview is full of wonderful nuggets of wisdom so be sure to listen to the full interview.
